Once you have decided to adopt a child in Florida, there are several things that you will need to do to prepare. We at The Law Offices of Philip J. Schipani are here to help you every step of the way as you grow your family through the process of adoption.
According to Adopt Florida, one of the first things you will need to complete is a class designed to help you determine what type of child or sibling group you would like to adopt called Model Approach to Partnerships in Parenting training. This course should last for ten weeks and will need to be done before you will be approved for adoption.
Another early step is completing the mutual approval process. Simply being approved through this does not mean you will be ready to adopt, but it will give the department the ability to evaluate your chances of being a successful adoptive parent and help you decide whether or not you want to adopt a child from foster care.
You will also need to complete a home study. During this time, workers will visit your home to determine which type of child would fit in well your family. If you are married or have children, workers will also interview these members of your family to determine your suitability as a foster or adoptive parent.
Once your application has been approved, you can be matched with a child. To learn more about adding to your family through adoption, please visit our web page.
