Bio

Attorney Elisabeth Whitmire was raised in Sarasota, Florida and attended Florida Southern College graduating with a B.A. in music. Before attending law school, Ms. Whitmire performed all over the Tampa Bay area with various opera companies, theatres, professional choral ensembles, and conducted a local children’s choir. During this time, Ms. Whitmire also worked as a legal assistant in family law for many years. Her path eventually took her to law school, where she graduated with honors at the top of her class from Florida Coastal School of Law with a Certification in Advanced Legal Research, Writing and Drafting. Ms. Whitmire is admitted to practice law in the State of Florida as well as the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida. Attorney Whitmire’s past legal experience includes, but is not limited to, an internship at the U.S. Attorney’s Office, a Judicial Clerkship for the First District Court of Appeals, as well as many years as an Assistant Public Defender—during which she completed over 130 jury trials.

Since returning to her hometown of Sarasota in 2018, Ms. Whitmire began working in private practice continuing her work in criminal defense and appellate law and broadening her career to include marital and family law matters as well as probate litigation. Attorney Whitmire is also certified by the Florida Supreme Court as a Family Law Mediator.

Ms. Whitmire has been recognized multiple times for her dedication to pro bono work and is passionate about volunteering in her local community. Attorney Whitmire is the current chair of the Sarasota County Bar Association’s Appellate Division and is co-founder of the Sarasota chapter of #hastaglunchbag which concentrates on helping those in need obtain lunches and support.

Ms. Whitmire has been consistently recognized by SRQ Magazine as one of Sarasota’s Elite attorneys and has been given an AV rating from her peers three years in a row, which means that she was deemed to have very high professional ethics and preeminent legal ability. Only lawyers with the highest ethical standards and professional ability receive a Martindale-Hubbell Peer Review Rating.
